Position Summary

FUNCTION:

The role of the Operations Analyst is to provide the Computer Operations department with skills and expertise that will ensure our operational environment continues to run smoothly and efficiently. This is accomplished through the administration of our batch scheduling tool, backup product, print support and data centre management processes.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operational Support – Duties will include:
    • Day-to-day administration of our tools/products
    • Providing solutions to challenges encountered in our production environment.
    • Manage production scheduling utilizing a batch scheduling tool
    • Operational Backup administration
    • Data centre management
    • Implementation of new systems into the production environment
    • Improvements and/or changes to Computer Operations procedures and processes
    • Documentation of processes and procedures
    • This position involves on-call and after-hours work
    • Training includes temporary night shift and weekend work.
    • Research and Development - Through consultation with customers and operations staff, self-initiated research and training, the Operations Analyst provides recommendations on products and services which will enhance the Computer Operations department's ability to meet the company's needs.
    • Projects - The Operations Analyst will represent the Computer Operations department on various corporate and departmental projects.
    • Product Implementation - In conjunction with other Infrastructure and Operations departments, the Operations Analyst manages changes to our technical environment. This includes bringing the department's perspective and needs to project teams prior to implementation and supporting the transition of new products and services into Computer Operations by ensuring that training, documentation, IT controls and verifications are in place.
    • Reporting – The analyst will contribute and initiate any reporting requirements to support all services provided by Computer Operations.
    • Computer Operations department support - The successful incumbent relieves Computer Operations positions on an as-needed basis. The ability to back fill a Computer Operator’s duties on an emergency or vacation basis is required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a Computer Operations environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Computer Operations fundamentals.
  • Working knowledge of the hardware, software and procedures used within Computer Operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate and diagnose problems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Superior analytical, reporting and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to bring expertise to project teams.
  • A technical diploma from a recognized educational institution.
