Position Summary


Alberta Blue Cross is actively seeking a full time Intermediate Server Administrator in the Infrastructure and Operations Department.

As an individual specializing in server technologies, you will be part of a dynamic team with the responsibility of level three operational support, proactive monitoring and maintenance, mentorship, knowledge transfer and planning of a diverse server technology portfolio.   This role provides the department with skills and expertise required to effectively manage the operation and implementation of Microsoft and Linux server technologies in a highly virtualized environment. Experience in other Microsoft products such as Exchange and Skype for Business will be considered an asset. This position plays a key role in the execution and continual development of operational processes that deliver high quality I.T. services.


  • Provide technical expertise in support of complex infrastructure working closely with customers and vendors technical support to resolve technical issues as it pertains to server platforms.
  • Automate deployment, installation and administration of server operating systems, applications, security patches, and upgrades using remote management tools.
  • Administer and support Microsoft and 3rd Party Messaging services (Exchange, Skype for Business).
  • Administer and support Microsoft cloud infrastructure products (Azure AD, Exchange Online Protection).
  • Perform diagnosis, troubleshoot, and conduct root-cause analysis.
  • Create and update documentation for server environments, including standard operating procedures, solutions, knowledge base articles and applicable project documentation.
  • Provide on-call support (24 hours/day, 7 days/week) on a rotational basis.


Candidate must have completed one or more of the following minimal requirements

  • Computer Science degree.
  • Post-secondary diploma in computers or equivalent.
  • Specialized training in related technologies.


  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory, and other Microsoft Windows server technologies (IIS, DNS, DHCP).
  • Intermediate level technical skills with:
    •  Microsoft Windows Server (2008 – 2016).
    • RedHat Linux (RHEL). Equivalencies will be considered.
    • Microsoft Exchange and Skype for Business.
    • VMWare vCenter/vSphere.
    • Experience with Microsoft Azure AD and Exchange Online Protection.
    • Scripting and automation experience preferably with PowerShell.
    • Citrix (XenApp/XenDesktop) experience.
    • Have a strong aptitude for process improvement and a desire to keep current with technology.
    • Strong written and oral communication and strong presentation skills.
    • Strong and proven troubleshooting ability in a large scale, fast-paced operations environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage time to support multiple high-priority objectives simultaneously.
    • Ability to adjust plans to respond to changing business priorities.
    • Must work well in a team-oriented environment.
    • Customer service focused.
    • Must have excellent problem solving abilities.
    • Self-motivated.
