Position Summary

FUNCTION:

Alberta Blue Cross is seeking a Research Analyst for the Analytics department.  This position will be part of a newly launched team whose purpose is to support the product development process by gathering information from internal and external sources, which includes facilitation of surveys and focus groups.  The Research Analyst will also provide support to the organization by supporting the product development and management process.  Using a data-driven approach, the team is tasked to explain the drivers of performance within product segments and recommend plan features, and pricing.   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for data research and analytics in support of marketing, pricing, risk selection, and other operational areas of group and individual health, dental, life and disability insurance products.
  • Assist in the continuous monitoring of product performance.
  • Use both internal and external resources to gather information required for analysis.
  • Analyzes data and reports to prepare presentation(s) to team and/or project team members
  • Collaborate on industry-wide reporting and analysis by sourcing and contributing information
  • Complete marketplace and competitive reviews to support product development and management

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • A self-starter with a minimum of one to two years experience in a business environment.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of research methodology, data analysis and project management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products, in particular, Access and Excel.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills, including the ability to work autonomously.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge of data management applications such as SAS or SQL, data visualization tools such as MicroStrategy and Tableau is an asset, but not required.
