Position Summary

FUNCTION:

We currently have an opening for a Systems Analyst – Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) Software Support in the Information Technology Department.  The primary responsibility of this position will be to provide technical support to business units utilizing COTS business software solutions.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide second tier technical support for COTS applications.
  • Collaborate with business analysts, architects and users on discovering and enhancing system capabilities.
  • Analyze application and workflow issues and review process requirements with the users.
  • Work proactively with the Business Units to ensure the software solutions are maintained and updated in a timely manner as required.
  • Respond to requests from business areas to modify or expand the capabilities of the application solutions as prioritized by management. 
  • Liaise with external vendors and experts to plan and implement software upgrades and identify possible improvements to the tools.
  • Cross train with other areas/functions within the IT Department.
  • Provides on-call support (failures, issues, etc.) on an as needed basis.  

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • A degree or diploma from a technical institution in computer science or related discipline or a minimum 2 years professional experience in software development environment.
  • Working knowledge of database environments such as Oracle would be considered an asset.
  • Two to 4 years experience in:
  • Software, and/or tool implementation, upgrades or maintenance.
  • Supporting business units in the resolution of problems and/or enhancing application functionality.
  • Supporting COTS applications.
  • Working with external vendors.
  • Must have exemplary interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional planning, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and consultation skills required
  • Demonstrated project leadership expertise would be highly beneficial.
  • Must be able to work effectively under pressure.
  • Must be self motivated.
  • Must be customer oriented.
  • Working knowledge of database environments and tools such as Oracle would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience with applications such as Lawson HRIS, Prophix, and/or Microsoft Dynamics GP would be considered an asset.
