Position Summary

FUNCTION:

Alberta Blue Cross requires the position of a Computer Operator within our Infrastructure & Operations department. Under the direction of the Team Manager, the Computer Operator operates & monitors various computer systems and associated peripheral equipment. The successful candidate will collaborate with staff from many areas of the company and interact with external customers as needed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs batch schedule, backup and computer systems monitoring services.
  • Monitors the health of real time systems and ensures the applications are available on time and are performing properly.
  • Monitors backups of the businesss services within different environments.
  • Assists in the analysis of problems relating to the processing of production runs and contacts system support personnel as required to resolve issues. 
  • Investigates and communicates discrepancies to the Operations Analyst area.
  • Performs customer print related services on our high-speed printers and ensures that all print outs are of high quality and accuracy.
  • Monitors paper inventory and stock shortages.
  • Maintains accurate logs of all computer operations activities and computer system problems.
  • Maintains the computer area and equipment in a clean and functional manner.
  • Assists in the training and mentoring of new Computer Operations staff.
  • Performs special assignments and related duties as required.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Willingness to work shiftwork as assigned (7 days a week, 24 hours a day) on a rotating schedule, which involves day, evening, night and weekend shifts is required. 
  • Attention to detail, ensuring end products are of high quality and accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to work with minimal supervision
  • Self-motivation is critical to successful performance in this role.
  • Demonstrated success in working in a team environment.
  • Preference will be given to candidates having prior experience with Broadcom Dollar Universe, EMC Networker application, and Xerox high-speed print.
  • Previous experience in computer operations would be an asset.

The successful candidates will be required to undergo a basic security clearance.
