Claims Adjudicator – Life and Disability Claims Services Details Location Name Alberta Blue Cross - Edmonton Edmonton, Alberta, CA Date Posted Nov 12, 2019 Profession Case Management Career Level(s) Experienced (Non Manager) Job Type(s) Permanent, Full Time Education Level(s) Certificate, Diploma Job ID job-9673 Position Summary FUNCTION: Under the direction and supervision of the Manager, Life and Disability Claims Services, the Claims Adjudicator is responsible for adjudicating disability and life claims on a daily basis and providing business support to the Manager and the team, in accordance with the required standards, policies and procedures of the department. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Adjudicates and assesses Weekly Indemnity (WI)/Short Term Disability (STD) fast track claims. Handles the processing of Life and Critical Illness claims ensuring that proper application of rules and regulations outlined in the group policy and the Canadian Life and Health Association (CLHIA) are followed. Manages the permanent disability claims. Communicates and prepares correspondence for employers, claimants, physicians and other treatment/care providers, lawyers, etc. as required. Supports the Financial Recovery Specialist in updating claims financial reporting and adjustments. Updates various databases for reporting purposes. Communicates with various internal Blue Cross departments such Group Underwriting, Medical Underwriting, Group Administration, Group Sales and Individual Products, among others to provide and share information regarding claim activities. Assists in claims archiving and records storage. Assists with other administrative/clerical duties as required in the department. Assists in organizing and preparing necessary logistics for group meetings training/learning sessions and social events. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Related post secondary education. Must possess excellent knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and PowerPoint. Keen attention to detail. Strong analytical skills. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must demonstrate strong organizational skills. Must be able to work well under pressure and be able to assess priorities in a confident manner. Must be flexible, innovative and independent. Must work effectively with fellow employees and staff from other departments in a team focused atmosphere. Must demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge in life insurance and experience in life and disability claims management would be an asset.
